What is VidiVet?

VidiVet is a free app you can download to your smartphone or tablet, giving you access to personalised veterinary advice whenever our practice is closed.

Whether you’re unsure if your pet needs to see a vet urgently, have a question about a new symptom, or simply want some reassurance out of hours, VidiVet allows you to send videos, photos, or messages directly to experienced UK-registered vets.

You’ll receive a response within minutes to help guide your next steps. If your pet does need to be seen urgently, VidiVet works in partnership with MiNightVet in Wellington, who are available to care for the most unwell pets during our closing hours.

What are the benefits of using this service?

We understand the stress and worry that comes with your pet being unwell, especially out of hours, VidiVet offers peace of mind, giving you immediate access when our practice is closed.

With full visibility through the app, you can view all of your queries as well as details of VidiVet’s advice. These notes are immediately shared with the team here at Nova Vets, enabling us to follow up the next working day to check in on you and your pet and put the wheels into motion for any further treatment that may be required.

How do we use VidiVet at Nova?

Our clients and their pets are the focus of everything we do at Nova Vets, and our partnership with VidiVet means that our clients and their pets have access to round-the-clock advice, guidance, and treatment, where needed.

VidiVet helps you to decide if your pet needs an in-person appointment, how quickly you need to see us, or an emergency vet in person, whether there is anything you can do to help your pet at home as well as keeping you informed so you know what to expect if you do have to see a vet in-person.

The service works as a triage system, which means that the poorliest pets can get the treatment they need as soon as they need it, without having to wait for an in-person consultation first.

VidiVet can help with the following queries

General health queries

Whether you’ve spotted some lumps and bumps, your pet’s eaten something they shouldn’t have, or they’re not quite acting like themselves, VidiVet can answer a range of general health enquiries. Better yet, VidiVets online experts can help you to decide whether your pet needs to be seen in-person by a vet or whether it’s something you can treat at home, helping to minimise unnecessary trips to the practice – less stress for you and, importantly less stress for your pets!

Post-operative questions

If your pet has recently undergone surgery, you may have questions or concerns about the post-operative recovery process. Perhaps you’ve noticed some swelling around the incision site, you’re worried that your pet might not be recovering as well as you thought they might, or you think there may be a risk of infection, if something’s not quite right, VidiVet can help with advice at your fingertips.

Diet and nutrition advice

With qualified vets on hand overnight and throughout the weekend, VidiVet can instantly put you in touch with someone to answer all of your questions about your pet’s diet and nutritional needs. From what to feed your pet, how much to feed them, and when to raise questions or concerns about weight gain or loss, if you’re worried, VidiVet is on hand.

Preventative care

Preventing potential health issues before they crop up is one of the best ways to keep your pet fit and healthy. VidiVet can help with questions about vaccinations, flea and tick prevention or dental health, helping you to get ahead of any issues that could impact your pet’s health.

Answers to VidiVet FAQs

Is VidiVet a replacement for in-person vet visits?

Simply put, no. VidiVet isn’t a replacement for in-person vet consultations. VidiVet works in conjunction with our practice by acting as a triage system. While not all concerns warrant a visit to a vet, the VidiVet team knows exactly when your pets should be seen in person.

How quickly will I receive a response?

Unlike other online vet services, you don’t need to wait for a consultation. Once you’ve submitted your query, one of the VidiVet team will review all of the information you’ve provided (and any previous questions in case there’s anything relevant) before responding. Depending on the complexity of your issue, you’ll usually receive a response in minutes.

Can I use VidiVet for multiple pets?

Every client registered with us at Nova has access to the free VidiVet service, so whether you have one furry friend or a few, you have access to a qualified vet any time of the day or night, as many times as you need.

Is there a cost for using VidiVet?

The VidiVet service is completely free for registered, active Nova Vet clients, and as the service is on demand, you can use it as many times as you need, whenever you need to.

What if I need to follow up after using VidiVet?

The Nova team will receive details of any out-of-hours enquiries made through VidiVet as soon as you make them. One of the Nova team will be in touch with you the next working day to check in on you and your pet and make sure you have everything you need, or to arrange a follow-up appointment if necessary.
